Wind Brasil Grand Prix Formula Report

The final Grand Prix of the year was one incredible event.

A total of 15 races were run, the maximum permited by the formula rules, on great winds ranging from 12-28 knots during the 5 days of the event.

With out a doubt, this was one of the most contested events of the year, with 8 different racers taking a bullet, consistence was the key here and anyone could have taken the title, we actually had 4 different sailors taking the event lead at some point.

In the end, Gabriel Browne (BRA50), making the best of his home conditions, had an incredible regatta to take the event title in front of a local cheering crowd. Gabriel Browne, who is only 18 years old, was inspired by his dad since he was a little boy, Marcilio Browne, who is a legend of the sport in Brazil and has many national titles, was almost having a heart attack watching each close race and when it was finally over, you could see his joy as one super happy father.

Alberto Menegatti (ITA 4), was one of the fastest guys out there but had some unlucky wind shifts on the last days which made him slip from first to second place overall, however, he now leads the new FW World Ranking that started in Santa Pola and will finish at the next worlds in Mendonza.

Third Place went to Steve Allen (AUS 0), who was very consistent as always followed by Wojtek Brzozowski (POL 10) in fourth and Myself (BRA999) in fifth and winning the light weight category.

Now it’s a short vacation and back again next year.

Cheers and have a great Xmas and new years to all, and of course, great winds.
